Hello world!

logo_smallThe first working group meeting for “Project Carousel” (name subject to change) took successfully place at the Institute of Education bar.  Project Carousel will be a student-led community looking at the quirky and the contemporary in media and film in different parts of the world.  It is quasi-independent while working under the auspices of the Centre for Media and Film Studies at the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS).

A lot of material was covered: the different functions that need to be created, divisions of tasks, possible name and branding issues, mission statement, structure of the editorial committee etc.  The consensus is that the site needs to be up and running as urgently as possible to keep the student energies this year and we will develop and let is evolve as it goes.  So, as the benevolent dictator in charge of moderating and guiding the site, I am happy to announce here the first ever post for our project Carousel: our little hello to the world!   Below is the picture of the first Working Group meeting for the site …

Congratulations. The site looks very good in outline. And the photo brings back memories of Birkbeck classrooms with malfunctioning IT! I look forward to seeing what is posted and contributing when I can.

Greetings from a steamy Sydney where it is 40 celsius outside.

The site looks encouragingly informative and interactive. Congratulations to the team and waiting to see much more. Delighted to know meetings are happening at the usual bars. All good things always do.

    Best!

This looks great and could evolve into a real dialogical resource
(good word eh? I learned it at SOAS!). Good to see such a good idea coming to fruition.

    Well done -
