Project: Carousel! is a student-led online community working under the auspices of the Center for Media and Film Studies at the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London.  Our aim is to become a key resource for contemporary issues in media and film globally; a site that will help encourage and provoke discussion and connections between students, academics and media practitioners across the world.

We have chosen to call ourselves “Project: Carousel”! as this, we believe, represents the head-spinning pace of transformation and movement taking place in the different media environments globally today. Yet, as importantly, it also implies the serious sense of play and openness (and sometimes dizziness) we wish to bring into the workings of this community: transversality, cross-disciplinarity, movement across different regions of the world, freedom to experiment, think, play, criticize.  A media and film carousel?  Perhaps.  A theory carousel?  A dogma carousel?  A transnational global networked diasporic space-time carousel?  Perhaps all of the above, or none of them, and hopefully much much more …
