My name is Maria Schonfeld and I graduated from with an MA in Critical Media and Cultural Studies from SOAS in September 2008 (under leadership of the benevolent dictator).  I have since been working in the third sector and have been working to set up a media-related charity called Akosia. Our first project is going to take place in Accra, Ghana. We are going there to work with 70 children who attend the Street Academy (a school for street children), making 2 films with them over a 6 week period.  We are bringing 2 film-makers, 2 producers and 2 primary school teachers and are going to let the children take the lead in this project.  They are going to write, direct and produce the films and we are going to take a back seat and see what we can learn from them.  In addition to the film-making we are going to be feeding the kids twice a day and spending our free time organizing sports activities for them.  We are very very excited about this project and would love all the support and help we can get from media professionals who can give us tips and advice  We would love for everyone to get involved as we believe that the more people get involved the merrier everything will be!
